It’s probably a flawed philosophy, but I think some things are clichéd tourist attractions because they’re actually very good. On that basis, and against our sense of self-cool, we joined the inhabitants of a cruise ship this morning and explored Pike Place Market. It was purposeful at least, being a quest for souvenirs and for dinner — I’m cooking tonight, a rare pleasure while traveling. We achieved our goals and also had some delicious coffee and croissants. It was a great morning!
Public transit includes boats in Seattle, and we rode the King County Water Taxi from downtown back to our little peninsula. It was fast and efficient and clean, with great views of the skyline.
After that we were hungry so we drove to Issiqua and had the best biryani of our lives. This was important because we were about to climb a mountain. We needed the calories, and we got them. So then we climbed a mountain.
To be fair, it was not a large mountain; this was the Little Si as compared to Big Si. But at times it was really hard work all the same! Drizzle was also filtering through the canopy for much of it, making it very pleasant. The summit was fine but to be honest I think I had Big Si envy. We’ll be back.
