Buffalo to Sioux City

We know someone from Buffalo, WY. We are jealous of her. As alluded to in yesterday’s post, there wasn’t nearly enough time to do the town justice, and it’s not even a big one. It turns out there’s a gorgeous slot canyon here along Crazy Woman Creek, and we skipped it entirely. Probably for the best, given the inevitable argument my jokes would have started 😁

They also have a lovely city park straddling a flood-stage creek where we had the best fetches of the trip. We try to get Georgia serious exercise every day, and some days it’s quite hard. We’re always grateful for a park like this one. I’m actually writing this from the future, so I can contrast this morning’s Georgia exercise with tomorrow morning’s, which is a morning run through an industrial park. Rosie will do anything for her dog, that’s for sure.

After Wyoming comes South Dakota, unfortunately. I guess the badlands are probably cool but not so much from the interstate. There is very little happening in this part of the state (or the state generally), which means a place that is simply famous for being a store is a major tourist attraction. It was right on the way, and we had to pee, so we stopped at Wall Drug like the tourists we are, but we didn’t like it much. “We” includes Georgia who wasn’t exactly scared of the taxidermied animals but who definitely wasn’t a fan either.

The tourist attraction we did want to see, the Corn Palace, was closed by the time we got to it. My recommendation is therefore: If you must traverse South Dakota, do it from East to West. You’ll get a nice view of the beautiful sunset that way, too.
