Colorado Springs Adventures

We are rested, we have an idyllic campsite, and we have delicious coffee. All that’s left is to have a day.

First: Garden of the Gods for a desert walk. The signs say to beware of rattlesnakes, but the mule deer definitely owned the place. The scrub jays are beautiful too. We decided that if we lived nearby, this would be the location of our morning run. There were a lot of people doing just that — some who were clearly there to be seen like the guy with his army boots and rucksack. We were looking at other things.

We had a bunch of errands to run, like laundry and showers, and then we did a scary drive that I cannot believe they just let people do: Pike’s Peak. All the way to the summit. We were both too anxious about plummeting off the side of the road to think to try to document how harrowing the drive really was, but wow — lots and lots of blind cliffs with no shoulder between you and the abyss, and oncoming traffic on a road that is as small as they could get away with.

Oh, and they had opened the summit for the season less than an hour before we arrived. All right!
